This only pertains to the faculty in the College of Medicine

There are 3 screens in Activity Insight that are designed just for the College of Medicine (MD) and 2 University wide screens.

  1. Lists of Credit Courses Taught
  2. College of Medicine Instruction Taught (MD Only)
  3. Other College of Medicine Teaching (MD Only)
  4. SEEQ and SRTE Feedback
  5. College of Medicine Course Evaluations (MD Only)

Screen 1 – Lists of Credit Courses Taught – is data imported from LionPATH only, data should not be entered on this screen. If you feel information is missing, email ai-support@psu.edu and we can check the LionPATH system.

Screen 2 – College of Medicine Instruction Taught – is data imported from OASIS only, this is ONLY Undergraduate Medical Education (pre-clerkship) Instruction starting with the 2023-2024 Academic year. We do not have previous academic years of this data, it should be manually entered into screen 3. If you are missing 2023-2024 Undergraduate Medical Education you should email oasis@pennstatehealth.psu.edu and add Activity Insight to the subject line.

Screen 3 – Other College of Medicine Teaching – this is where you manually enter any courses that have not been imported into Activity Insight, plus things like Grand Rounds, Clinicals, Medical Student Teaching, Resident Teaching, etc.

Screen 4 – SEEQ and SRTE Feedback – this screen is evaluations only for LionPATH courses, data cannot be added or edited on this screen. If you feel information is missing, email ai-support@psu.edu and we will check the SEEQ system.

Screen 5 – College of Medicine Course Evaluations – is data imported from OASIS only, this is ONLY Undergraduate Medical Education (pre-clerkship) Instruction starting with the 2023-2024 Academic year. We do not have previous academic years of this data, if you are missing 2023-2024 Undergraduate Medical Education evaluations you should email oasis@pennstatehealth.psu.edu and add Activity Insight to the subject line. All other course evaluations for the Dossier or the Annual Review (AC-40) should be summarized and then can be added to the document once you generate it from Activity Insight OR you can add a summary of the evaluation to the Comments box of the course in the Other College of Medicine Teaching screen. If you are unsure how to enter this information, please email FacultyAffairs@pennstatehealth.psu.edu.

Non-Tenure-Line & Tenure-Line Use of Alternate Assessment of Teaching Effectiveness for Promotion

UPDATE: As of 2023-2024, you no longer need a new alternate assessment, you only need to have it if you previously had it in a Dossier for an earlier Dossier for P&T. For example, if you are doing your 4th or 6th year review you should have had it in your 2nd or 4th year review, so you will need that same one in your 4th or 6th Dossier. We have locked these screens so that the data is archived, if you need any assistance with this archived data, please, email us at ai-support@psu.edu.

The guidance at https://vpfa.psu.edu/assessment-of-teaching-effectiveness/ calls for tenure-line and non-tenure-line faculty members going up for promotion and/or tenure reviews to include one alternate assessment of teaching effectiveness for each academic year.  In other words, no dossier should include more than one alternate assessment for each academic year.

How do I change my name?

My name has recently changed, but it has not updated in Activity Insight. Why?

We don’t change names automatically, we ask users to notify us when they want their name changed. Because when we change names in our Users and Security screen it will change your name on all of your records. We will not assume you want your past publications, presentations, or contract/grants to remain with your new name. If you are good with your past records having your new name then it is an easy fix. But if you want your past records to reflect your old name prior to the change there are some things we need to do in the system to make that happen. We are happy to do that for you, just contact us at ai-support@psu.edu with your new name and the month and year you changed your name and we will make the magic happen.

Data transfer request

Did you know if you were at an institution or go to an institution that uses Activity Insight (also known as Faculty Success by Watermark) you can request your data to be transferred to/from that Institution.

Complete this form “Data Transfer Request” to start the process. Once our team receives your request we will start the process. Questions or concerns can be sent to ai-support@psu.edu.

February Newsletter

Something new for 2024, each month I am going to try to send a newsletter out about Activity Insight. This will include any announcements from the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, a FAQ or two, changes/issues we have found and are working on in Activity Insight. If you ever have any questions or issues, remember to reach out to our team at ai-support@psu.edu.

You may have caught this in today’s Penn State Today email, but I wanted to share this with all, the Promotion and Tenure Training offered by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs.

  • “Transitioning from Associate to Full in a Tenured Faculty Position” — Feb. 8, 11 a.m.–noon. Target audience: Tenured associate professors.

  • “Tips for Writing a Narrative Statement” — Feb. 15, 10–11 a.m. Target audience: Tenure-line and non-tenure-line faculty seeking promotion.
  • “Tips for Creating a Teaching Portfolio” — Feb. 23, 11 a.m.–noon. Target audience: Pre-tenure and non-tenure-line faculty.

FAQs for February:

We’ve had a lot of issues from people not being able to login. If you get a login screen that looks similar to the image below you are in the wrong place. You will not be able to login from this screen.

Bad Activity Insight Login Screen

Our recommendation is to…

1. Clear your cookies and cache from your browser. If you are in the College of Medicine, use a different browser or an incognito session for PSU vs Penn State Health.

2. Go to https://activityinsight.psu.edu and SAVE the URL, in the blue bar you will see LOGIN TO AI click there and it will log you in. This week we renamed it from “LOGIN” to “LOGIN TO AI” after it being confusing to some of our users.

3. If you still cannot login, can you try logging into another Penn State resource? Did that work? Yes, you might have disabled your account or not have an account, email us at ai-support@psu.edu. No, you could not login to another Penn State resource you might want to go to accounts.psu.edu or contact your IT Help Desk.

Speaking of FAQs, have you ever looked at our FAQs? We have a new one that we want to share, https://activityinsight.psu.edu/2024/02/01/seeq-and-srte-information/ . This would be good to look at so you can determine if you have the correct SEEQ and SRTE data appearing on your reports.

College of Medicine Login Issues

Are you are in the College of Medicine at the Hershey Medical Center and cannot login to Activity Insight?

This login screen will do NOTHING for you! If you get this screen you are in the wrong place! If you click on the reset password link it will do NOTHING for you. Why? Because we use the Penn State Microsoft Authentication.

  1.  Open a new browser, clear your cookies and cache, now go to https://activityinsight.psu.edu and click on the LOGIN TO ACTIVITY INSIGHT on the top right of the blue bar.
  2. Open a new window in your browser, then click on the 3 lines or 3 dots on the top right corner below the X. Then you will click on one of these based on the browser you are using: New Incognito window (Chrome), New private window (Firefox) New InPrivate window (Edge). Once you do that go to https://activityinsight.psu.edu and click on the LOGIN TO ACTIVITY INSIGHT on the top right of the blue bar.
  3. You will need to use the Microsoft Authentication App to login.
  4. If you cannot remember your Penn State Microsoft login go to accounts.psu.edu – but remember this resets ALL Penn State Accounts.
  5. If you are still having an issue email us at ai-support@psu.edu because either your account has been disabled or you do not have an account.

SEEQ and SRTE information

Are you as confused as we are when it comes to SRTEs vs SEEQs? Hopefully this information will help you.

The SEEQ and SRTE information is sent to Activity Insight (“AI”) via an API from the SEEQ system. It is locked on import to keep the home system the record of truth. If you are missing SEEQs or SRTEs we can resend record through the interface. If the data does not match your Instructor’s Report we can try to resend the record through the interface. However, if it is listed as “Not Summarized” in our interface that means there is no data available for us to send. Any time we resend records through the interface it will be pushed out the following morning.

If you still have issues with the data that has been pushed to Activity Insight contact your unit’s SEEQ setup representative (http://www.srte.psu.edu/SRTE_rep).

The screen in Activity Insight has not changed to meet the new SEEQ data, however, the reports all have been updated to show the difference between the SEEQ and SRTE data.

Fall 2023 is when SEEQs were rolled out and Activity Insight received questions A2 and A3 and with the Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree (1-5) scale.

Starting Summer 2021 to Spring 2023 we had SRTE records where there was questions A3 and A4 and the  1-7 ratings with the Median and Mode.

In Spring 2021 SRTES were changed to the 1-7 ratings with the Median and Mode, however we only received the Median and Mode data at that time. There was a complaint filed that faculty wanted to fill in the ratings for 1-7 so we created a blank table in Dossier’s and Annual Review reports so faculty could fill it in if they wanted to or they could leave it blank.

In Spring 2020, Summer 2020, and Fall 2020 there are NO SRTEs. However, Spring 2020 were optional and if faculty wanted to include them in their Dossier’s for P&T they could.

Spring 2019 and further back SRTEs is when we only received the MEAN results for questions A3 and A4.

When are my courses imported from LionPath?

Lists of Credit Courses Taught data is pulled from LionPath and automatically imported into Activity Insight the 4th or 5th week after the start of classes. It is then updated and refreshed at the end of the semester.

We recommend you do not manually enter this data, because it could create a duplicate record after we do the import.
