Data transfer request

April 2, 2024 by Nicole Gampe

Did you know that if you were at an institution or go to an institution that uses Activity Insight (also known as Faculty Success by Watermark), you can request your data to be copied to/from that institution?

Our policy requires faculty members to notify us if they are leaving and wish to have their data copied to the new institute. We will not release data to another institution without the faculty’s written request. Other institutions have the same policy regarding the release of data.

How do you start this process?

1. Email the following information to activityinsight@psu.edu:

  • First and Last Name.
  • The institution you are coming from or going to.
  • Your Penn State web access information (example: abc1234), you must have one before we can even create your account in Activity Insight.
  • The email address you used at your previous or new institution to log into Activity Insight. This helps Watermark identify the correct user.

2. We will then forward your request to Watermark to copy the data to/from PSU. This data transfer can take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the amount of data.

3. We will then verify that the information has been copied cleanly to our database. The only information that will be copied is data in the Research and Creative Accomplishments section of Activity Insight. Teaching and Service information does not get copied because it is specific to each institution.

As always, if you have any questions, email your Penn State Activity Insight Support Team at activityinsight@psu.edu.

College of Medicine Login Issues

February 22, 2024 by Nicole Gampe

Are you are in the College of Medicine at the Hershey Medical Center and cannot login to Activity Insight?

This login screen (shown below) will do NOTHING for you! If you get this screen you are in the wrong place. If you click on the reset password link it will do NOTHING for you. Why? Because we use the Penn State Microsoft 2 Factor Authentication.

Bad login screen for Activity Insight

Please try steps 1 or  2, below.

  1.  Open a new browser (preferably Chrome or Firefox), clear your cookies and cache, now go to https://activityinsight.psu.edu and click on the LOGIN TO ACTIVITY INSIGHT on the top right of the blue bar.
  2. Open a new window in your browser, then click on the 3 lines or 3 dots on the top right corner below the X. Then you will click on one of these based on the browser you are using: New Incognito window (Chrome), New private window (Firefox). Once you do that go to https://activityinsight.psu.edu and click on the LOGIN TO ACTIVITY INSIGHT on the top right of the blue bar. (Note: Edge has given us some issues, so we recommend Firefox or Chrome).
  3. You will need to use the Microsoft 2 Factor Authentication App to login.
  4. If you cannot remember your Penn State Microsoft login go to accounts.psu.edu – but remember this resets ALL Penn State Accounts (such as Email, LionPath, Workday, and Canvas).
  5. If you are still having an issue email us at activityinsight@psu.edu because either your account has been disabled or you do not have an account.

SEEQ and SRTE information

February 1, 2024 by Nicole Gampe

Are you as confused as we are when it comes to SRTEs vs SEEQs? Hopefully this information will help you.

The SEEQ and SRTE information is sent to Activity Insight via an API from the SEEQ system. It is locked on import to keep the home system the record of truth. If you are missing SEEQs or SRTEs we can resend the record through the interface. If the data does not match your Instructor’s Report, we can try to resend the record through the interface. However, if it is listed as “Not Summarized” in our interface, that means there is no data available for us to send. Any time we resend records through the interface, it will be pushed out the following morning.

If you still have issues with the data pushed to Activity Insight, contact your unit’s SEEQ setup representative (http://www.srte.psu.edu/SRTE_rep).

The screen has not changed to meet the new SEEQ data; however, the reports all have been updated to show the difference between the SEEQ and SRTE data.

Fall 2023 marked the rollout of SEEQs, during which Activity Insight received questions A2 and A3, utilizing the Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree (1-5) scale.

From Summer 2021 to Spring 2023, we had SRTE records that included questions A3 and A4, along with ratings from 1 to 7, including the Median and Mode.

In Spring 2021, SRTES were changed to the 1-7 ratings with the Median and Mode; however, we only received the Median and Mode data at that time. A complaint was filed that faculty wanted to fill in the ratings for 1-7, so we created a blank table in Dossier and Annual Review reports to allow faculty to fill it in if they wished or to leave it blank.

There should be no 2020 SRTEs in Activity Insight. However, if you had them in your Dossier, you will need to copy and paste them from your previous Dossier document once the report is generated from Activity Insight.

Spring 2019 and earlier SRTEs only provided the MEAN results for questions A3 and A4.

As always, you can contact us at activityinsight@psu.edu if you have any issues.

When are my courses imported from LionPath?

January 22, 2024 by Nicole Gampe

Lists of Credit Courses Taught data is pulled from LionPath and automatically imported into Activity Insight the 4th or 5th week after the start of classes. It is then updated and refreshed at the end of the semester.

We recommend you do not manually enter this data, because it could create a duplicate record after we do the import.

If you need assistance, please, email ai-support@psu.edu.

How do I add my Sabbatical to the Yearly Data screen?

September 20, 2023 by Nicole Gampe

Yes, some fields on the Yearly Data screen are locked; however, if you click on the Academic Year, you can still modify and save information on this screen.

To add a Sabbatical, go to the Yearly Data screen.
On the Summary Screen, click on the Academic Year you need to add your sabbatical to.
Scroll down to the middle of the page and then fill out the following boxes:
On Leave?
Start Date of Leave (Month, Day, Year)
End Date of Leave (Month, Day, Year)
Results of Sabbaticals: Publications, Reports, etc.

Be sure to click on SAVE when you are done!

You cannot add, delete, or duplicate a record on the Yearly Data summary screen. If you are missing an Academic Year and need one added for a Sabbatical, contact the Activity Insight  Support team (activityinsight@psu.edu). Otherwise, the system and its reports pull information only from the current Academic Year; other years are needed only for Sabbatical information.

Non Tenure Line Dossier, where does my job description go?

July 26, 2023 by Nicole Gampe

The job description is required for promotions occurring in Academic Year 2024-25 and beyond. In preparation for the 2024-2025 review period there is a new screen called “Job Description – Non-Tenure-Line Faculty Only” that can be used. This data will only appear in the Non-Tenure-Line Faculty Promotion Dossier, above the Narrative Statement section and should be no more than 500 words.

A section of the 2023-2024 Non-Tenure-Line Administrative Guidelines state, “The academic unit head, or supervisor if the faculty member is not located in an academic campus/department/division/school, must draft a position description for each faculty member and obtain input on that description from the faculty member no later than the conclusion of the academic year prior to the individual’s promotion review year.”

Please see the Non-Tenure-Line Administrative Guidelines here: https://facultyaffairs.psu.edu/promotion-and-tenure/

My name has changed, why is it not reflected in Activity Insight?

November 2, 2022 by Nicole Gampe

When your name is changed we do not get a notification from HR, please reach out to us to have it updated in Activity Insight.

However, you also need to tell us if you want your new name to be updated in your past records. For example, on 11-1-2022 my name officially changed to Jane Doe, I want all of my Publications prior to 11-1-2022 to be changed to Jane Doe as well, other wise my former name will remain in Activity Insight prior to 11-1-2022.

Any questions about this process or if you need to open a request, email us at AI-Support@psu.edu

Why do my Spring 2021 SRTEs have a blank table?

October 6, 2022 by Nicole Gampe

This is correct and not a glitch. We only received the Median and Mode for Spring 2021. What can you do?

  • You can leave the table as it is.
  • You can delete the columns 1-7.
  • Or you can fill out the information once your report is generated to Word. However, entering the data is NOT REQUIRED.
